Professor Kenan Arnautovic was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina. He grew up and completed his education in Sarajevo including elementary school, middle school and Medical Faculty. He graduated from the Medical Faculty, University of Sarajevo as the top student of his class. He did his internship in Sarajevo and, in part, Sinsheim-Heidelberg, Germany. He completed his Master’s degree in neurosurgery on the topic of spinal trauma and his PhD on Chiari I malformation in adults. Professor Arnautovic did two residencies in neurosurgery. His first was done at the Department of Neurosurgery, University Clinical Center Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina. The second residency in neurosurgery was done at the Department of Neurosurgery, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Little Rock, Arkansas. He trained neurosurgery under renowned neurosurgeons Professors Ossama Al-Mefty, Gazi Yasargil, Glenn Pait, Rick Broop and Ali Krisht. Professor Arnautovic is a Board Certified neurosurgeon – diplomat of The American Board of Neurosurgery.Professor Arnautovic is currently an attending staff neurosurgeon at Semmes-Murphey Clinic since 2003. He serves as a Professor at the Department of Neurosurgery, University of Tennessee in Memphis, TN, USA. He has published extensively in Neurosurgery Peer Review Journals (113 Articles in Google Scholar, 1319 scientific quotations) and his articles made three front covers of the most prestigious neurosurgical journal, The Journal of Neurosurgery. He has published 3 Books including the Neurosurgical Best Seller “Spinal Cord Tumors”- Springer 2019 purchased/downloaded 7200 times. His special neurosurgical interests include skull base neurosurgery, complex spine surgery and general neurosurgery. He is a member of a number of numerous neurosurgical professional societies such as Tennessee Medical Association, Southern Neurosurgical Society, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, North American Skull Base Society, European Association of Neurological Surgeons and North American Spine Society. Professor Arnautovic is a founding member of Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS). He is Associate Editor of Operative Neurosurgery, Editorial Board Member of Medical Archives, Bosnian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences, as well as Reviewer of several other Neurosurgical Journals. Professor Arnautovic is currently serving as a Chairman, International Programs Committee of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), Chairman of the American Chapter of the South East European Neurosurgical Society (SEENS) and Vice President of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS).
