Professor Muharem Zildzic, MD, PhD was born in Gracanica, Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1943. He graduated the Faculty of medicine University Zagreb Croatia. Postgraduate study he performed at “Andrija Stampar School” Zagreb Croatia in field of general medicine and gastroenterology. Specialization in internal medicine and sub specialization in gastroenterology he finished in Zagreb 1977 and 1978 and he completed his Master’s degree 1981 as part of project “Viral etiology of chronic hepatitis” and was one of founder of laparoscopic liver biopsy and gastrointestinal endoscopy in Bosnia and Hercegovina. PhD thesis defended 1991. Muharem Zildzic has been elected as full professor of internal medicine and gastroenterology at the Medical faculty of Tuzla University. 1997 he was elected as professor of Family medicine at Department of Family medicine of Queen’s University Kingston Canada. In international project “Implementation of family medicine in B&H “he was key founder of Academic department of Family medicine at University Tuzla. Also, he was elected as professor of family medicine at University Zenica and International University of Dubrovnik as scientific director for courses “Teaching of teachers in family medicine”. As professor of internal and family medicine he introduces new teaching modules in undergraduate education for the first time in B&H. As author and co-author he published one hundred different publications, several books and monographs. The most important books are: “Acute abdominal pain” and “Health care in community” He was founding member and president of “Association of gastroenterologist in B&H” and he has organized some important courses, conferences in field of Family medicine and Gastroenterology. Professor Zildzic is member of European Academy of teachers in Family medicine (EURACT) and Council member and founder for B&H 2000-2004. In that time he contributed in preparing the European definition of family medicine. Also, he is member of European Society for Primary Care Gastroenterology ESPCG and WONCA – Europe. Professor Zildzic was reviewer for many books and he is member of Editorial Board of several scientific journals. He received many national and international awards. Lifetime achievement award was from AKAZ B&H 2016 (for contribution and remarkable achievement to development of quality in health care in B&H)
